Pakington St Residence
 
​As part of a renovation of a glorious Queen Anne house, the tired 70's extension was incorporated and extended to create a soaring kitchen, living and dining space. 
 
To minimise cost and time of build, elements of the old renovation were reinvented to provide design solutions for the family.
 
The bank of bay kitchen windows were integrated into a wall of joinery on the southern boundary to create display boxes for the client's Asian artifacts and provide massive storage to hide the day to day hubris of a busy family with three children.  
 
One of windows were retained to provide natural light into the bulters pantry that conceals all the kitchen  workings.
 
 
Anchoring this large space is the striking marble bench top that provides the strong statement of modernity which is softened by the clients choice of recycled which is a linking devices from the display boxes to the feature wall behind the television and behind the outdoor kitchen. 
 
By removing the chimney and lifting the ceiling to the an exposed peaked roof, the venacular form of the19th century house was sympathetically referenced and the inclusion of a double row of skylights provided cross ventilation and flooded the space with light.
 
To connect the pool and garden to the house, a pavilion was created the absorbed the existing "shed" and provided an external living area and the bold use of colour in this area signifies it relaxed, family purpose.
