Cremorne Street Townhouses, Richmond
Six separately titled, low cost, three storey residential terraces, developed by six owner / occupier / friends after actuation by architect / owner / occupier / friends. As the site is located within an industrial area, it was seen appropriate to utilise the hard edged street scape and surrounding environment within the design of the Townhouses. Cost constraints were also an influence on the elements drawn from the surrounding industrial buildings such as grey concrete blocks and aluminium. Materials were treated in an honest manner offering a more timeless solution. Elements of Richmond Housing found outside of the industrial zone were also included with remnants of skirtings and picture rails picked up in banded blockwork; and elements of form from buildings by architects producing residential work within the area, eg. Robinson and Chen, Rowena Parade.
